Nir Eyal on How Products That Create Desirable Habits Win the Long Game - Product Science Journal #28

Not only did I get to talk product with Nir Eyal, but I also got to shine a light on the companies that have used the Hooked model to create value for society. These companies, like FitBod, Kahoot, and Anchor use the awesome power of behavioral design and technology to help people build habits that they don’t regret.

Nir Eyal on How Products That Create Desirable Habits Win the Long Game - Product Science Journal #28

This week’s episode of the Product Science Podcast was one of my favorites to create. Not only did I get to talk product with Nir Eyal, but I also got to shine a light on the companies that have used the Hooked model to create value for society. These companies, like FitBod, Kahoot, and Anchor use the awesome power of behavioral design and technology to help people build habits that they don’t regret.

One of our core beliefs at H2R Product Science is that technology can and should be used to solve real problems and make a positive impact on the world. Those of us who are doing that with it need to spread the awareness and skills to help others do it too. With good product thinking, we can also create sustainable businesses and better lives for ourselves along the way.

If you want to believe this too but aren’t sure how to make it happen, you could be a great fit for a beta program we’re running this summer. Reply to hear more about it from me.

Warmly,

Holly

The Nir Eyal Hypothesis: Products That Create Desirable Habits Win in the Long Game

Nir Eyal is the author of Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products. In this episode of the Product Science Podcast, we talk about how to make sticky products that keep users coming back for more, the difference between ethical and unethical manipulation, and the impact of passing the regret test on the business’s bottom line.

The Regret Test

NirandFar

In this article Nir goes into detail about what the regret test is and how to use it. I think it’s an amazingly simple way to tell if you’re designing something with a positive impact.

The fundamental problem with Silicon Valley’s favorite growth strategy

Quartz

This article from Tim O’Reilly was so fantastic I told anyone who would listen to me. So many systems today are set up for short-term gain at the expense of long-term value and sustainability, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Tim O’Reilly talks us through his own history and decisions to tell this story.
